My foster bulldog has a scabbed head, hair loss. Does she need vet?

This looks like an area that was scraped and now has a secondary bacterial infection. Please clean the area with a warm wet cloth and once rinsed and dried apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. By washing it you should remove the dried up crusty skin. It may look more irritated but having it clean and open to the air it should heal more quickly. The rest of the skin looks fine. It may take several weeks or more to have the fur fill in. This is commonly seen when they get a skin infection (aka hot-spots). The neck is a common place for this to happen, because moisture often gets trapped under their collar and/or loose skin. It appears to be rather involved and there could be a deep infection - these are not easily treated without antibiotics. Considering it has been getting better with your current treatment, I think it's fine to continue treating at home for now. If it's not mostly resolved in two weeks, or gets worse, then I'd recommend a visit to the vet. Here are my recommendations for successfully treating this wound. 1) Clip the hair around the area and expose all of the lesions. 2) Wash the area with cool water and a medicated shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day. Use a cloth and gently wipe away the scabs. Do not scrub, because it will irritate the skin more. It's OK if all of the scabs do not come off in each washing. 3) Make sure the area is completely dry after washing. 4) Leave the collar off. I hope that helps and Zeus gets better soon.

Based on the pictures and your description, I suspect Mazie may have a bacterial skin infection. I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It looks like Banjo has a skin infection. These are usually bacterial in nature, but sometimes it can be from a fungus or yeast. Banjo should see a veterinarian for an exam and treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a focal infection. At least in this picture it appears to be superficial. Make sure that this is not from urine getting into that part of the skin and if it is, have him evaluated by a veterinarian. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

The pictures are a little hard to make out clearly and I really can't say for certain what the cause of Leo's skin condition is without examining Leo first. My best advice is Leo see his veterinarian to get some diagnostics done on his skin so the most appropriate treatment can be prescribed. If there is an infection present, Leo may need antibiotics. In the mean time, you can try Zymox spray or cream which can be purchased online or through your local PetStore. If Leo's skin does not improve or becomes worse, please see your local veterinarian. This looks like a superficial skin infection that may have been caused by a small scratch or abrasion on the skin that just worsened. There is a chance this can even be a fungal infection. I would definitely take Chapo in to your vet to get this treated. The vet may have to shave the hair to get the skin to breathe well, cleanse it with an antiseptic, and then prescribe oral medication to help this resolve. I would also get Chapo on a flea preventative, if not done so already, because this is a common cause of skin lesions. Best wishes with your puppy Chapo moving forward.
