Thank you for your post! Leo looks like he has a bacterial skin infection. His long hair may make him prone to these as moisture gets trapped easily under his hair during warm times of the year. I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your vet to treat this appropriately. Leo may need a course of oral antibiotics along with topical therapy to treat this effectively. If you are unable to get to your vet soon, then I would at least recommend starting him on a shampoo and begin several supplements. The shampoo I find works effectively is Duoxo Chlorhexidine PS shampoo and bathing twice weekly lathering a minimum of 8 minutes at wash bath. I would start Leo on Welactin fish oil and essential 6 spot on by dermoscent. Hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns you may have

Make sure that this is not from urine getting into that part of the skin and if it is, have him evaluated by a veterinarian. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Leo! Make sure you check him for fleas and have him on a good flea product. Fleas love the back half of the dog-near tail. If Leo is flea allergic it only takes 1 flea bite, because the pet is allergic to the saliva of the flea, to cause a very itchy skin condition. If there is no possibility of fleas then it could be allergies, pit bulls are susceptible. The ideal treatment for hot spots is shaving the fur away from the affected area, starting antibiotics and steroids, a topical spray and usually an E-collar to keep the pet off the area. With that kind of treatment it usually heals with in 5 days or so. It sounds like Leo is very uncomfortable and would benefit from seeing your Vet. Good luck!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! English Bull dogs are prone to allergies (food and environment), skin infections, demodex, and immune conditions. I would have the bumps checked to see if they are from a skin infection from yeast and/or bacteria. I would put Henry on Bravecto or Nexgard to cover for demodex. Since he is older I would have full blood work done, including a thyroid profile. If the skin doesn't improve on therapy in 3 weeks have some of the lesions biopsied to make sure it isn't skin cancer. Especially if skin problems are abnormal for him. If the lesions are more bumps than flat hairless areas and aren't consistent with a skin infection I would jump to the biopsy sooner. I hope this helps and I wish Henry a speedy recovery!

I recommend you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as this will likely require local therapy with cleaning of the site, pain control medications and antibiotics. Also, your veterinarian could check for a possible underlying cause like allergies, mites or a foreign body reaction. Good luck!

This is commonly seen when they get a skin infection (aka hot-spots). The neck is a common place for this to happen, because moisture often gets trapped under their collar and/or loose skin. It appears to be rather involved and there could be a deep infection - these are not easily treated without antibiotics. Considering it has been getting better with your current treatment, I think it's fine to continue treating at home for now. If it's not mostly resolved in two weeks, or gets worse, then I'd recommend a visit to the vet. Here are my recommendations for successfully treating this wound. 1) Clip the hair around the area and expose all of the lesions. 2) Wash the area with cool water and a medicated shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day. Use a cloth and gently wipe away the scabs. Do not scrub, because it will irritate the skin more. It's OK if all of the scabs do not come off in each washing. 3) Make sure the area is completely dry after washing. 4) Leave the collar off. I hope that helps and Zeus gets better soon.

That skin lesion could have a few causes: The most common reasons are •Allergies (environmental or food) •Bacterial infection •Fungal infections There are a few questions to ask yourself: Has there been any new treats or food within the last 2 weeks? If so, stop giving the new item. It could be related to the itching. Does your pet have a history of itchy skin or ear infections? If so, it could indicate an underlying condition like allergies or thyroid disease. Are other pets in the household itching? If so, it could indicate a communal cause. Here are some things you can do at home with may help. 1. Stop any licking (since this can make it worse) - Leo should wear an elizabethan collar at all times. - Remember that the collar must come out past his nose in order to be effective. 2. Next, wash the area once a day with either plain hand soap (like Dial) or a medicated pet shampoo. Rinse the area well and gently towel dry. -This will help to control the number of topical pathogens as well as remove oil and dead skin cells. 3. Lastly, apply a topical antibiotic twice a day to the red areas. Make sure the skin is dry before application. -Just a dab will do and rub it in well. Neosporin is fine to use. Here are some tips that can improve over-all skin health and decrease itchiness: 1) Add in an omega fatty acid supplement. - Your veterinarian will carry some nice products - You can also find a good product called Welactin online. 2) Change his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. *It will take 4-6 weeks for any diet or supplements to take full effect 3) Wash your pup in a pet oatmeal shampoo and conditioner once a week for general health. 4) If environmental allergies are suspected, a daily antihistamine can also help. Have your pup examined if- •Leo is severely itching/licking •If any itching/licking gets worse •If in 2 weeks the lesion is not completely healed Sometimes no over the counter options will work and they need a stronger medication from the veterinarian.
