Is broth from a boiled smoked turkey leg safe for my dog, skin off?

It is fine to use some of the chicken broth for flavoring on dog food. Just make sure there was no aggressive seasoning or excessive salt used. The best broth for dogs would be non seasoned or low salt broth. Also you would want to skim out the fat if there is a lot of it or let it set up in the fridge first so you can remove the larger fat layer. Giving cooked chicken is also no problem as a treat. Yes, if the bones are very mushy and no longer crunchy, bone broth is safe and healthy for dogs. I would try to limit how much of the bone material that Avery gets at once. Also, make sure your neighbor is not using garlic or onion while making the broth since these are toxic to dogs. Other seasoning should be limited since they can cause irritation to the stomach lining.

A small amount of pepper in chicken stock is not a cause for concern. Low sodium chicken broths can be used in small amounts, but assure that the stock or broth has the lowest sodium amount possible and does not contain garlic or onions, as both are toxic to dogs.

Typically making bone broth and adding it to the food is not something I recommend doing. The broth can be high in fats that will cause gastrointestinal upset to a dog. This might be vomiting and diarrhea. Also high fat foods can cause pancreatitis in dogs. I would recommend staying with his regular dog food. Hope that helps

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The occasional small piece of turkey deli meat as a treat is unlikely to do any harm. But I would still monitor for any signs of GI upset (like vomiting or diarrhea) and stop giving the turkey if any GI signs occur. I would also suggest only giving small amounts of the deli meat especially if your dog is a smaller dog. Giving too much could end up causing diarrhea, vomiting or in severe cases, pancreatitis.

It is not recommended. Even though the onions are garlic are cooked they can still be toxic to your dog. If you want to feed chicken broth just make it plain with low sodium; nothing else added. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
