My dog was run over by a horse and now can't use her back legs.

Oh dear! This is a very serious problem - I'm afraid she really has to see a vet right away. She may have a herniated disc in her back causing the paralysis, or some other neurologic problem affecting her spinal cord. She may be in pain, or she may have no feeling at all in her rear legs - it's impossible to say without an exam. She needs immediate treatment to have a reasonable chance of regaining function in her rear legs, I'm afraid there's nothing you can do at home that will help her. If costs are a concern, you can see if there is a low-cost SPCA clinic in your area that could help. Besides monitoring and resting her, there isn't much more you can do at home, especially if she has internal injuries and/or any fractures or other orthopedic injuries. If she isn't walking on her hind limbs than she could have a fracture, dislocated hip, etc and may need treatment, depending on the cause. Without an x-ray, it is impossible to know the extent of her injury. She really needs to be seen by a vet to examine her and determine if treatment is needed. If you are unable to take her to a vet than you could rest her and monitor for improvement. You could use a towel sling under her belly to help get her outside to use the bathroom.

However, this could also be a fracture which can be very painful. It seems like she is in pain so it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi. She needs to be seen right away. Her stance in the photos is very concerning. I recommend getting her to the ER and they will do an exam and assess if she is paralyzed or not. They can provide pain relief as well, which is the most important thing here.

You must bring her to the vet urgently, if money is the problem you should contact a dog charity in your area of living and they will help you, there is nothing you can do at home to help her, she must see a vet right away.

Hello, sorry to hear about Macie. Yes indeed she could have a broken bone after being hit by car. She could also have torn a ligament or another soft tissue structure in her joint. This is likely causing her to be lame and not want to walk on her leg. She will need to have x-rays of her leg and a full orthopedic and neurologic examination to ensure she does not have an injury. Alternatively, she may be sore from the trauma of the car hitting her and she may need 3-5 days to improve. Despite this, any pet that was hit by a car should be evaluated as some injuries may be internal and this may be difficult to see without a thorough physical exam. Hope this helps and best of luck.

If she is unable to use her front leg and cannot extend it, it has potentially been traumatically damged for example a fracture. It may just be a strain or sprain but if she cant use it you will need to take her to the vet asap in case it is broken. If ot is broken the sooner you get there the more options there are for treatment.
