My dog has roundworms. Can I switch dewormer brands safely?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 11 months and 21 days old | 32 lbs

hi, I have a medium sized shepherd-terrier mix, he weighs about 30 lbs and is a year old. We discovered roundworms in his feces yesterday, and administered what was left of his worm medication from when he was a puppy, planning to buy more. However the local stores arent carrying the same brand we gave him yesterday. Is it okay to purchase and administer a different brand of dewormer for his last 1.5 doses? Ive attached photos of the brand weve administered 1.5 doses of.

It's fine to administer Atlas a different brand of deworming treatment, and I recommend giving him Panacur. It's an excellent deworming that you can get OTC, and it kills roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms :-)

We prefer to treat all the worms as dogs can often have low levels of other types of worms that may not show up in the fecal exam. Great question! I would get Ginger an OTC treatment now. You can give her Panacur, it's an excellent dewormer that kills roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. It's a three day course of treatment and you will need to give her a second round of it two weeks after the first to kill all the worms. She should then be dewormed monthly until six months of age, and then every three months thereafter. I hope this helps :-)

Looks like roundworms. There are many OTC dewormers that should work just fine. You can look for one that contains Pyrantel. It is still a good idea to have a vet diagnose what worms or other intestinal parasites are present. And Cujo will need re-treatment in 3 weeks to kill adults that hatch from eggs in the intestines right now. What's the best broad-spectrum dewormer with easy dosing for dogs?

Panacur (fenbendazole) is probably one of the best broad spectrum dewormers. It treats hookworms, whipworms, roundworms and some tapeworms. It is also used to treat Giardia and lungworms. You will need to contact your veterinarian for a dose based on your dog's body weight. Legally, we are prohibited from recommending doses for medications in the absence of a physical exam and a VPCR (veterinarian-patient-client relationship).
