Why is my dog restless, whining, tired, and circling? Is she in pain?

It does sound like your dog could be in pain, and that could be causing the restlessness at night. He simply can't find a position that he is comfortable in, and it hurts to curl up. He could have an injury to his neck, spine, hips, or limbs. I would take him into the vet today for an exam. He may also benefit from pain medications if he is in pain. Do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to dogs and fatal if given. The vet can prescribe him safe pain medications if needed.

Although I can't know for sure, it's possible Luna is experiencing abdominal pain. Just like humans, there could be many reasons ranging from mild (gas) to serious (bloat). Try taking Luna for a 20 minute, slow controlled walk. Try feeding her a small meal. If the behavior continues beyond 30 minutes or if it seems like it is getting worse, have her examined by the veterinarian right away as it could indicate something serious like bloat. It sounds like she should be examined by a vet to determine the source of her pain. She could have neck or back pain, arthritis, abdominal pain, etc. and your vet should be able to localize the pain and decide the best way to treat. She may need an anti-inflammatory and your vet can prescribe. Do not use any human OTC pain relievers as they can be toxic to dogs.

This could indicate anxiety or pain. If she has a head tilt or unable to lay down without flipping over, or non-responsive to you when she is like this, then I would be more concerned about a neurological problem and she needs to see a vet ASAP. But if she is willing to stop to eat or drink and responsive to your voice then I would monitor her closely, rest her for the weekend (don't let her run, jump or play) and contact your vet Monday if she is still showing symptoms. I would not recommend to give her any human pun meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps!

Hello. Is the circling always in the same direction? Can you call her from the circling & stop the behavior? If not, this may be indicative of an inner ear infection, or more seriously, a brain lesion. You should have Snickers evaluated at your earliest convenience to diagnose the cause of this behavior. Poor Gracie. She may be in pain or not feeling well. Keep an eye on her, and if she's still acting this way in the morning, have her seen by a vet. If she develops signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or a bloated abdomen, take her into an ER vet immediately. Best of luck.

It sounds like something is causing her discomfort. She should really be examined by a vet, if it continues. She could have a problem with her back, neck, or abdomen causing her some pain. Your vet can do a thorough physical examination to localize the problem and then treat. She may need an anti-inflammatory or pain medications. Hope she feels better soon.
