Can I remove my dog's ear pack at home instead of paying the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Puggle | Male | neutered | 10 years and 6 months old | 20 lbs

my dog has a ear pack that was put in 2 weeks ago,we have an appointment tomorrow to get the ear pack pulled out which is on time ,its just that the vet wants another $100 to do it on top of the 350 i paid 2 weeks ago. Can i possibly remove the pack myself safely or do i just suck it up and take him in?

Hi, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

Without knowing exactly why the pack was placed to begin with or what the pack entails, I would highly recommend following up as-planned. Your vet wants to recheck whatever is going on, most likely, and if it is a bandage change on something painful, Spike may need sedation to help him be more comfortable for the procedure. It could also be that the pack needs to back replaced.

I hope whatever is going on that Spike recovers quickly!
