My Lab has a red tail bump with pus and is throwing up. What's wrong?

That protrusion is from her vulva. Molly needs to be examined by the veterinarian. It’s possible there is an infection or a mass which could be cancerous. The veterinarian will get a better idea once the area is palpated. Have her examined today. Best of luck.

While it is nearly impossible to say what the original cause of this irritation was, Molly now has a full-fledged lick dermatitis lesion on her tail. The best things you can do are the following: -Clip the area surrounding the lesion so now hair is touching the affected part -Scrub the area with antiseptic like chlorhexidine or dilute betadine -Apply a triple antibiotic ointment and a topical steroid ointment -Put an e collar on her to prevent further mutilation of the area -Treat for fleas / ticks if she is not already on something for this, as this the most common cause for lesions on the hind end and tail If you believe there is truly a lump beneath that infected area, you should have it looked by your veterinarian once the area has healed up so that appropriate diagnostics can be made if necessary. The bump could be caused by an infection, allergic reaction, cyst, benign or cancerous mass. The only way to know for sure is to have your vet do a fine needle aspirate. It is a very easy proceedure that takes just a few minutes. Once it is diagnose, your vet can decide the best treatment. It could be an allergic reaction to an insect bite or a traumatic wound. Itchy bumps are almost always allergic in nature however. You can try topical soothing creams (sold at your local pet store) for allergic reactions, and cleaning it with chlorhexidine solution 3% or iodine diluted 50:50 with warm water. This will help some with the inflammation. If it still isn't better after 24-48 hrs then it is best to have your vet take a look at it and potentially give her stronger medications to treat it.

Poor Beiley! If she has acutely stopped wagging her tail, I am concerned she has pain at her tail base or around her hips. Labradors can develop a condition called "swimmers tail," which is the result of a injury around the tail base. She may need x-rays of this area to determine what is going on. I would encourage you to take her to your vet to have her evaluated and treated with pain medication.
