My dog has an oozing lump under her tail. Should I see a vet?

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. This lump could be a cyst, an abscess, a lipoma, or a growth. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I'm sorry to hear that Maddie is not feeling well. It's possible that she had some trauma to her tail, hit it on something, got a bite wound or an insect bite or sting. If there is discharge there, you could try and put a warm compress on it to encourage drainage and then apply a topical triple antibiotic ointment. If it continues to look worse, I would have an exam done by a veterinarian. If the vomiting and poor appetite continues I would also take her to the vet for this reason. I'm unsure if these could be related or two separate causes. I hope she gets feeling better soon!

If Molly is not spayed, I would have her examined by a vet ASAP. It is possible there are issues such as a urinary infection, pyometra (infection of the uterus), prolapse (if things are protruding) or even additional issues such as parasites trying to bury in the skin. Since there is also blood present, it'd be best to have her checked out. Other signs to look out for include lethargy, fever, changes in eating or drinking, additional discharge, increased urination, and cloudy/bloody urine.

I recommend to have Leia examined by the veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. Have this checked out soon.

Thank you for the photo of the lump on the side of Lily's vulva, I can see it clearly in the photo. From the photo, it doesn't appear to be ulcerated, bleeding, or look otherwise "nasty" on the outside. That doesn't necessarily rule out it being a malignant lump, but this appearance is better than it being what I described above, if that makes sense. While there is a chance it could be malignant, given her age, there is also a possibility that it could simply be a benign growth, a good possibility given its appearance. Again, I can't say that for certain, but benign growths and malignant growths tend to have certain characteristics, and appearance can be one of those characteristics (but not always!). Sorry that I can't be more specific, but unfortunately I cannot be specific without seeing her in person. I do think it's good that you are having her seen by a vet for this, especially since it has grown in size a little, and waiting another 10 days does not seem like a big deal in this case. If you are especially concerned, you can ask to be put on the cancellation list, where they can call you a spot opens up sooner. I hope this helps!
