My dog has red spots on his private area while on meds. Vet needed?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Male | unneutered | 120 lbs

Red spots around my 2 year old Great Danes genitalia, he is currently on antibiotics and prednisone for a reaction elsewhere (back along the spine). Should I take him back to the vet or give it a day or two to see if it clears up on it’s own?

That picture looks like a pretty severe reaction, so I would recommend having your veterinarian examine it just to be on the safe side. Anytime new areas develop while a dog is already on Prednisone, it is worth having them evaluated.
Good luck! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
