My dog has red spots on his private area while on meds. Vet needed?

It looks like there may be a small skin infection (called pyoderma). You can use a medicated shampoo like Dechra Malacetic Ultra Otic, but if it doesn't look better in 72 hours, your pup may need oral antibiotics to clear the infection.

The circular areas in the second picture almost look like bruising, which may be related to the medications or the primary medical issue. If the neurologist won't examine Casper for this issue, then I would recommend taking him the primary care veterinarian for evaluation. If they are bruises, blood work should be performed to make sure Casper can clot appropriately. If they aren't bruises, then cytology can be performed to see if there are bacteria and/or yeast present. Some dogs on steroids can have difficulty healing simple skin issues.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. This looks to be a mild skin infection. Why it happened, we almost never know for sure. It could be from an insect bite but again, no way to know for sure. It does not look serious. I suggest you buy these medicated pads (linked below) and use them twice a day on the affected area. That is quite an unusual lesion. Has your vet consulted a dermatologist regarding that? Given the history of autoimmune disease and immunosuppressive medication options could include calcinosis cutis secondary to the steroids, a fungal (or atypical bacterial) infection, drug eruption, etc. There are higher risks for complications with certain drugs and for certain infectious agents in different parts of the country. Sampling is likely indicated (cytology or biopsy, culture) and i would definitely recommend getting the input of a dermatologist before it progresses. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine based shampoo and bathe him twice weekly for about 1 week. If he does not get better, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Alternatively, this could be secondary to allergies. Hopefully it is just an uncomplicated superficial infection. Good luck!

Or it could also be something like a severe infection. I would highly recommend you consider going back to your veterinarian if she currently has the rash.
