My Boston Terrier has a strange rash. Could it be from prednisone?

If the skin lesions became worse on prednisone one has to seriously consider that these lesions may be caused by mange mites. Your vet would need to take a skin scraping and hope to find a mite in the scraping (this is not easy). Mange mites do emit a sort of sweetish odor, so this would be another giveaway. Of course this could also be caused by a fungus or bacterial infection, however the lesions should have improved with the antibiotics given. You will need to take Buster back to your veterinarian for a recheck.

Hello. I do not think the vaccinations caused any problems, it just looks like she has some allergy issues. Unfortunately, it looks like you have a bit of a staph infection on her abdomen & groin region, & just some sensitivities on her chest. Let's try treating her with a good antibacterial shampoo. I like KetoChlor shampoo that you can find on Amazon, Chewy & other sites. Keep the shampoo on for 10 minutes before rinsing & bather her twice a week for the next 3-6 weeks. I would also start her on a good omega 3 fatty acid like Nordic Naturals for dogs. Give this a go for a few weeks & see how it helps her skin. If she has had history of an immune mediated disease such as immune mediated hemolytic anemia, I would get her in to see your veterinarian as soon as possible to check her lab values and see if this disease has returned. I would want to see what her red blood cells and platelet numbers look like. She may need to go back on immunosuppressants to stop the disease from progressing any further. The bruising on the abdomen has be concerned that she has a bleeding disorder. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hello, The immunosuppression from the atopica, prednisone, and mycophenolate may have caused a bacterial or fungal skin infection. I have had more than one patient develop an infection while receiving multiple immunosuppressive drugs. I do not believe this is currently life threatening. However, if you begin to notice several affected areas with drainage and/or an odor, I would recommend following up with your veterinarian sooner.

The circular areas in the second picture almost look like bruising, which may be related to the medications or the primary medical issue. If the neurologist won't examine Casper for this issue, then I would recommend taking him the primary care veterinarian for evaluation. If they are bruises, blood work should be performed to make sure Casper can clot appropriately. If they aren't bruises, then cytology can be performed to see if there are bacteria and/or yeast present. Some dogs on steroids can have difficulty healing simple skin issues.

That picture looks like a pretty severe reaction, so I would recommend having your veterinarian examine it just to be on the safe side. This large of a lesion should be evaluated by a veterinarian, who can determine if there is evidence of infection and/or a possible cancerous process. If you cannot get her to a veterinarian soon, I recommend putting an Elizabethan collar (cone collar) on to prevent Peyton from being able to lick wherever the lesion is. I do not recommend putting any ointments or topical medications on, as this can keep the area moist and prevent healing. I hope this is helpful!
