My puppy has red scabs on his chest and fleas. What should I do?

It is possible that these lesions are caused by an allergic reaction, but it could also be caused by an infection, puppy pyoderma (small pustules that aren't caused by infection), mites, ringworm, among a few others. I would recommend that NaNook get checked out by a vet to determine the cause so that he can get appropriate treatment. The vet may recommend a medicated shampoo like Dechra MalAcetic Ultra which can help with simple bacterial or yeast infections.

If it’s on his neck it could be from his collar or something that rubs on that area. If it is just those 2 spots and there is no discharge from the area and Titan isn’t bothering them, I would leave the areas alone and let them continue to heal. I would keep his collar off for a few days to decrease more irritation. If the areas have discharge, or are getting bigger, I would take him to the vet. Good luck and kisses to Titan!

Comboguard should be adequate flea prevention, but if there are a lot of fleas in his environment, it is possible that Harvard is still being bit by fleas. The pictures you posted look like a skin infection. Puppies commonly get a sterile (no bacterial) pyoderma that will go away on its own. I would continue to watch these little bumps. If they appear to be spreading or if Harvard is licking or scratching at them, then you may want to check in with your vet to see if it is time to start antibiotics. You can try using an antibacterial shampoo to cleanse the area, I like Dechra TrizChlor 4 Shampoo.

In his armpits and on his chest this is a skin infection. I would recommend taking Thor to the veterinarian to get a course of antibiotics to heal this. I would also recommend getting a skin scraping for the hairloss on his back. This may be a skin mite like demodex. I would make sure Thor is on either Simparica, Nexguard or Bravecto. These are oral flea and tick preventions and are used off label for demodex and skin mites. These are prescription so I would discuss them with your veterinarian. It does sound that is a flea you saw. It is not uncommon for puppies to have fleas and have scabs and bumps from scratching from the irritation of a flea bite. You can try a bath in baby shampoo or dawn dish soap as this help kills fleas on puppies to young for flea shampoos and flea prevention. You can gently brush the scab to loosen the debris and apply Neosporin to it when dry. You can talk to your vet about proper flea control base on his age and weight to prevent this in the future

It may be insect bites, it may be a condition common in puppies called puppy pyoderma, or it could be another skin infection. Puppy pyoderma is roughly equivalent to acne in people. Many dogs get it as puppies, most of them outgrow it in a few months without needing any kind of treatment but sometimes it gets bad enough that it needs to be treated, just like some people. If it continues to worsen, get him back in to see your vet and see if Leo needs to get medicated baths and/or some medication to help him clear up his skin.

It looks like he has a bacterial skin infection which could be associated with allergies. Have your vet take a look at him as he will need an oral antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or a corticosteroid to help treat. You can also bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo.
