My dog's paw is red between toes. Can I use Nystatin or home remedies?

If BoDeen is only licking one paw then he may have something between his toes that is causing a problem. I will usually recommend soaking the foot in Epsom Salts (following the instructions on the box for making it up) for 5 minutes then just drying it well. That can be repeated twice daily. You should also try to figure out a way to prevent him from licking at the foot and to protect it. This may be from an underlying allergy or from a foreign body such as stick or splinter or a bite. Soak it in warm water to help for now. Ideally you want to stop her from licking it as this makes it worse but I know that is hard to do. If you can place some neosporin on it and apply a baby sock this will help the medicine soak in and stop her from licking it. You can do this until you can get an appointment at the vet for further medicine and to make sure it does not need to be lanced and flushed

Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further licking. You can soak the paw in an Epsom salt foot bath for 10-15 minutes daily. Make sure the paw is completely dry afterwards. A soak in diluted chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) may also provide some relief.

Hi there and thanks for posting! While using Vagisil on inflamed paw pads is certainly a unconventional treatment, I'm happy to hear his paw had gotten better and not bothering it. If you notice the paw worsens or the redness comes back, I would recommend he sees his veterinarian as he may need to be on antibiotics if an infection is present. Best wishes to you and BoDeen!

Poor Luca! I actually recommend to use an Elizabethan collar instead of a sock. The sock will hold in moisture and it will make the area more humid which will encourage more bacterial or yeast growth then allowing it to air out. Keeping these lesions open to the air is much better. Have Luca wear the collar anytime he is not being directly supervised. Wash the paw daily with an antibacterial soap and rinse. You can continue the Epson salt soak every other day (rinse well afterwards). After it is dry, you can apply the spray. Make sure to keep his feet clean and dry. Until he is checked out by the vet on Monday, keep the trauma to the paw minimal so no running, jumping and keep his walks minimum and avoid abrasive surfaces such as overly dry grass and rocks. These look to be inflamed and irritated not infected so antibiotics are unlikely to cure and may make the condition worse if the underlying cause is not addressed. Allergies, mites and yeast overgrowth would be quite common and I recommend a vet check to determine the best possible action

That scrubs is fine to use on the feet as a cleaner daily. You can also apply cortisone cream or medicated powder in between the toes to help keep them clean and dry. If it continues you may want to talk to your vet about a food trial for food allergies or environmental allergens to prevent further occurrences.
