Why does my dog have a red mass on his eye? How do I treat it?

Poor girl. This raised red fleshy lesion on the eye looks like either a blood clot, a possible parasite, or even a mass). It is best to take Sasha in to your vet to get a thorough examination of this eye for further information and treatment options. Hello. That looks like a small growth/tumor that originated in a tear-producing gland. Without an actual biopsy, we cannot say the exact type or if it is benign/malignant. However, the majority are Meibomian Gland Adenomas and typically are benign. They can bleed, cause inflammation or infection and, if large enough, can irritate or even scratch the cornea. This is a very abnormal looking eye and it appears that your dog has some serious issues with the cornea. The cornea is very cloudy and hazy and the pink lesion looks like a large ulcer on the cornea. This eye is likely chronically dry and lacking in tear production. This eye looks like it is in imminent danger of rupturing. I would recommend that you take your pet to the closest emergency clinic if you are unable to get help from a regular daytime vet right away. Your pet should be seen immediately and it is not a good idea to wait for 7 days. Your pet will likely need multiple prescription eye medications and possibly surgery in order to repair the defect. Please do not try to treat this without a proper diagnosis and proper medication.

I am afraid that this red mass looks like a tumor or multicystic mass. This is definitely something that needs to be seen by a vet as it a) keeps your dog from closing his eye lid which can damage the eye to the point of losing vision (will dry out the cornea), and b), tumors can grow invasively, ie destroy the eye. Your vet will examine the mass, possibly take a little bit of tissue to examine under the microscope or send in to a pathology lab and then, depending on the findings, discuss treatment options, which could include removal of the mass alone (if possible), medication to remove it or make it shrink, or even removal of the eye. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She almost appears to have red tissue growing at the edge of her corneas. This can be a variety of things, but a common cause is a condition known as pannus. It is most common in German shepherds, but can be seen in other breeds. Her veterinarian will examine her eyes and may perform some tests. From there, medication can be prescribed if deemed necessary. I hope this information helps!

Eyes are so hard to take pictures of. However, Pannus is a common eye problem in the German Shepherd. It causes a significant change to the cornea. Usually is starts on the outside corner and works it’s way in. Sometimes it is dark brown pigment and sometimes it is more like blood vessels or white. I am suspicious that this may be what is causing the problem with Krystal. I would highly encourage you to seek a second opinion or go see a veterinary ophthalmologist. Pannus can be very aggressive, and usually needs lifelong medications to keep it in control.
