My rescued pit bull has a red lump on her stomach. Is it serious?

That looks more like a mass or tumor than a rash. I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian first thing in the morning. She should wear an elizabethan collar until she is examined. keep the area clean and dry. She may need a biopsy to know if this is infection or cancer. Anytime a new mass is noticed, I always recommend having it evaluated to see what it is and if anything needs to be done about it. Unfortunately, we can't tell anything about a mass by just looking at it. Your vet can perform a simple test called a fine needle aspirate where they use a small needle to collect some cells from the mass, then look at them under the microscope. They may even need to send the cells to the lab for a pathologist to examine them, so we know what the mass is. If it is benign, you might not need to do anything about the mass at all, but if they see cells that worry them, they might recommend removing the mass. Hello. It is difficult to tell if this is a cyst or a small tumor, but it is good to have this looked at soon. Iggy is young, so I am not so much concerned about this being very serious, but Pitbulls do seem to be a little more inclined to develop what we call button tumors. Most of these are not terrible dangerous, & if your veterinarian suggests having this removed & the tissue sent for pathology, I would do so. Often, with these small tumors, removal is curative. But knowing what this is also gives you a heads up as to whether or not other small tumors may arise from time to time. I would not panic over anything I have said, but wait to have this looked at. No, it does not look serious. It looks like a superficial skin infection. I suggest you use these medicated pads on the affected area(s) once or twice a day. Poor Baby! Due to its dark color and it's changing nature, I would have your vet take a look at it. It could just be a benign blood cyst and nothing to worry about, but it could also be a malignant tumor that needs to be safe. If your vet isn't sure, I would have it surgically removed and sent to the lab for testing to be on the safe side. I hope this helps!

I would have to see some pictures of the area to get a better idea of what you are talking about. I can't think of any normal anatomic structures that meet your description in that location, but that does not necessarily mean that whatever you are seeing is necessarily going to be problematic. Whenever there is any sort of unknown mass or lump on the body, options moving forwards are usually pretty similar. If it isn't causing any issues, you can continue to monitor it for increase in size and behavior, or you can have a your vet take a look at it and obtain some diagnostics to discover what it might be. Unfortunately, usually just by look alone there is generally no guarantees as to know what precisely it could be. Hope this makes sense.
