My dog has red, inflamed spots on her stomach. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 24 lbs

My dog has 4 or 5 spots on her stomach that look like warts/ zits. They are very red and inflamed. One is very large and has a black spot in the middle of it. She tried to lick them and I tell her to stop in fear that it will get worse. They just showed up in the last 12 hours.

This would appear to be localized skin infection. You would need to have Betty examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. Infection can be treated systemically with oral antibiotics and/or topically with shampoos. Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further licking until she sees the doctor.

This bump could be caused by a number of different things. It could be an insect bite of some kind, a localized bacterial infection or inflammatory reaction, or even a skin growth or tumor. If you just noticed it today, you could try applying a topical antibiotic spray labeled for dogs (available at most pet stores) and monitoring the spot for the next 2-3 days to see if it resolves. If not, I would recommend having it checked by a vet to find out for sure what it is - she may need prescription medication such as an antibiotic, or it may need to be surgically removed.

This looks like either a puncture wound or an insect bite, i would recommend monitoring it for the next 2-3 weeks, if you think it does not get any better you should take her to the vet in order to get it checked and treated.

It's hard to say for certain from the photo, but it may be a type of skin tumor. I am concerned that it appears to be a very dark red color and is hairless. Your vet may suggest a needle aspirate or biopsy to determine if the growth is cancerous or not. It may be more apparent in real life that this is something else like an insect bite or sting, or a skin infection. A veterinary physical exam is the best recommendation.

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). My dog has red rings on belly. Is it a skin infection or tick bite?

It looks like she has a pyoderma which is a skin infection. She should be examined and treated by your vet as she may need an antibiotic to treat the condition. In the meantime, you could bathe her with a medicated shampoo, like Douxo Chlorhexidine shampoo.

This presentation is likely to be due to a mild superficial bacterial infection (bacterial folliculitis) on the ventral abdomen. Nothing to be extremely worried about as it could be self limiting/resolving. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching (if any). If signs are not resolving, a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) will be then needed to solve the problem.
