My dog has a red circle on her leg. Hotspot, ringworm, or cancer?

It's hard to tell, but this could be from an injury or it could be a ringworm lesion. To be safe, I think it's best to take Mia into the vet this weekend to get it diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

You will need to take your dog to a veterinarian for a skin exam. Your dog could be suffering from an allergy, mites, fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection. each of these requires a different treatment, so it is important to find out what is causing the itch. This does, however look like a bacterial infection, Your vet will do a thorough exam and maybe a a skin scrape. He will then discuss the options with you and then prescribe medications such as antibiotics and possibly an antibiotic/antifungal shampoo.

It doesn't really look like a ringworm but it is hard to be sure without examining Penny in person. Please, take all the precautions you would if it was ringworm (use gloves or wash your hand after touching the area) and take Penny to your local vets tomorrow.

Hello there. Thank you for using PetCoach and thank you for including photos. My best guess is that this is ringworm. It does not look like a bite. I suggest you get Molekin' to your vet for an exam and to get a proper diagnosis for two reasons. Number one, ringworm is contagious to people and number two, an adult dog that gets ringworm usually has an underlying problem with their immune system. An adult dog should not get it. This is much more common in puppies. Remember, it is impossible for me to diagnose over the internet with just a photo. I am just giving my best guess. Many skin diseases look similar to the naked eye so that is why testing is important. It may take 2+ months for it to clear completely up but you should start noticing a difference in a .couple weeks. If you don't have any improvement in 2 weeks or it worsens then you definitely need to get him to the vet. It does not have the appearance of ringworm or a hot spot. Ideally, Snickers should be examined by your veterinarian. If it is a mass or tumor, a fine needle aspirate can be done to collect samples for pathology. An impression smear can also be made and examined under a microscope in the clinic. If Snickers is licking or chewing at it, place an e-collar (cone) on her until she sees the vet. At the very least, she may need antibiotics since the skin is broken which predisposes her to infection.

Ring worm is a possibility and is contagious to both people and other animals. There is no way to be certain from the photos. Your vet can check it with a woods lamp to see if it reacts or do a culture to confirm it. It may be a reaction from a tick or allergy that is also causing those spots You can try to keep the spot clean and apply a topical antifubgal until you get the seen to be safe

Hello and thank you for your post! It certainly looks like it could resemble ringworm and with tater tots age, it makes her more susceptible to infections with an older immune system. If you haven't had tater tots blood tested in a while, I would also make sure that she does not have any other problems that could cause her immune system to be down. It certainly isn't an emergency and can wait to be seen by your vet. However, that being said, I would still try to keep the other dogs away from her and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after touching her. I would have your vet scrape her skin to check for mites as well. I would get a plastic cone for tater as well so that she does not chew at the area. Hooefully your vet can determine what this is and get tater on the most appropriate treatment. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I am also available via consultation.
