Why did my dog get red bumps on his scrotum after the dog park?

Ouch, poor Ham! You are correct it could be a contact allergy, but he could also have a bacterial or yeast skin infection or this could be due to insects (fleas, mites). Without seeing him in person, I can't say if it's more than an allergic reaction, so I do recommend holding off on putting this cream and have him seen by a vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing this rash so that he can be treated. In the meantime, you can try giving him an Epsom salt or oatmeal bath which may temporarily help with his itchiness.

While there are many causes of skin irritations, allergies are common this time of year. Humans inhale allergens such as grasses, weeds, pollens and molds. This results in watery eyes, runny nose, etc. This can happens in dogs, but more commonly dogs walk through the grass. This will result in irritation of the underside and paws of the dog. This could be the case with Ruka. The veterinarian will examine him and ask detailed questions about his lifestyle, diet and medication. Skin tests may be recommended. Based on these results, treatment can be started if needed. If it appeared suddenly after being in a soiled crate, it’s more likely to be dermatitis (an infection /inflammation of the skin) than more severe conditions such as brucellosis or orchitis. If you’re not able to bring him to your vet ASAP, I recommend placing an e-collar to prevent licking and cleaning the area with chlorhexidine antibacterial shampoo or wipes (available at pet stores) twice a day for 3 days. If the redness hasn’t subsided by then, definitely schedule an appointment with your vet, as a prescription steroid/antibiotic ointment such a dermavet would likely work faster! Best wishes!

From the pictures, it could be that Zeus has a rash from a contact allergy, or this could be hives. Try giving him an oatmeal bath tonight to see if that helps with it. If it does not help with this skin problem or it gets worse, I would have him seen by a vet as soon as possible. Hi it's possible that Jaxx had an allergic reaction to grass or plants that affected his scrotal skin. You should try to gently wash his skin to remove any pollen. He may have also rubbed himself raw if he's been humping things. If the skin is still red tomorrow, take him in to see the vet. They can recommend ointments that can soothe skin reactions. Ps i love his big ears!

Allergy is one of the top differential diagnois. Other possible differntials are pyodermitis (bacterial infection of the skin), superficial trauma, skin inflammation due to eccesive licking, presence of parassites. Others less probable causes are neoplastic and fungal diseases. I would recommend to try to prevent licking (with an elizabethan collar) of the affected area and a check up with your local vet if the lesion won't improve in the next 36-48 hrs.
