Why does my dog have red bumps and itch on his belly after neutering?

This can be due to a bacterial or fungal skin infection and certain types of mites. I recommend having him seen by a vet to determine the underlying cause and prescribe the appropriate treatment. In the meantime, you can try clean the area with a mild dog shampoo and get Finley an E-collar or "cone" to prevent him from licking the area. Depending on how recently he was shaved, the lesions can be due to trauma caused by the clippers, but is unlikely. I hope this helps and that Finley gets well soon!

This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). If he was neutered recently or in the last few weeks and the blister is by the old incision it could be a suture reaction. There are many reasons for red skin bumps. You can gently warm compress the bump twice daily. If you can post a picture it may help. Otherwise get it checked by your Vet if it doesn't get better

These bumps could be skin irritation from the antiseptics used to clean his skin or they could be irritation from the clippers. If this does not improve the red areas, then he will need to see his veterinarian. In the meantime, do not allow him to lick the area. He should wear an E-collar if he is trying to do so. Oh ouch! That looks like it is uncomfortable. This looks like it could be a skin infection, which could be bacterial or yeast, or a combination. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. In the meantime you may want to consider bathing him in a shampoo that contains chlorhexidine or salicylic acid. He will need to be examined, started on his vaccinations and deworming. The rash can be addressed as well.
