My dog has a dry red bump on paw with fur missing. Is it serious?

There are a few different things this can be on MIlly. It can be a Foreign body, so something punctured the skin and is still inside. It can be a growth but if this has gone away and came back it is less likely. It can also be an abscess or just inflammation. As this mass or spot is in an area of the body where we do see melanomas and other masses and where there is not a lot of extra skin, I suggest you have this examined ASAP by your veterinarian. This may be just a little skin infection easily treated with antibiotics, however in case it is a tumor, the smaller the mass the easier it is removed and the better and quicker it heals.

It may be a cyst or local infection/irritation. Monitor for rapid change or growth, discharge or bleeding as well as discomfort. Ideally, he can be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the underlying cause and provide the appropriate treatment. If he is pawing or rubbing at it, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the vet.

This is likely to resolve on its own as long as you prevent any further self-trauma (preventing her from licking at it for example). You can get an e-collar from your local pet store or simply just keep a very close eye on her to prevent further self-trauma. In most cases of mild infections, if this is done at home, they can resolve as long as you keep that area clean. If no improvement of worsening is noted in the next 3-4 days, then have her examined by your veterinarian. However, there is a good chance she can do well at home. She is adorable! That looks like an infection. It could be bacterial, mites, allergies, a foreign body in the skin or yeast infection. At home you can wash it daily with an antibacterial soap (rinse it well). Make sure he is not licking or scratching it (use an elizabethan collar if needed). If it is not getting better or if it is getting worse within a week, then take him into the vet for an exam. Poor Kong. This could be an infected area that Kong has been licking, a growth, or it could be where a small foreign object has gotten under his skin like a grass awn. First, you don’t want him to lick it so you can put a cone collar on him if needed to prevent this. You can try putting neosporin on it twice a day but chances are he may need oral antibiotics. You can also give him Benadryl. See link below. If it isn’t healing or gets worse, I would have your vet take a look at him.
