My dog has a red blister on his lip after grooming. What should I do?

Poor Chico! It is difficult to tell exactly what it is without seeing it in person. I would watch it closely. You can put an over the counter antibiotic ointment like Neosporin or something similar to see if it will help. If it doesn't look better within 24 hours, I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet will be able to tell exactly what it is and the best treatment to help it heal. I hope this helps!

That lesion looks very inflamed. It’s possible it’s a reaction to something he chewed on but an infection is also possible. I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian to rule out something more severe like a tooth root abscess. He may also get medication to help heal the lesion. Best of luck.

There is not a photo which may help. I recommend to let the vet know that the blisters have burst. They may recommend a steroid cream or something topical to put on the lesions. Make sure the keep the area clean and dry. Make sure your pet does not lick the area and she may need to wear an elizabethan collar at all times. I don't recommend to put anything on the lesions without first consulting your veterinarian. These lesions may dry up and heal on their own but your vet will know best since they can actually examine the lesions. I hope this helps and that she heals quickly.

Poor guy! Your can try this: It won’t hurt him if he licks it off. However, if it’s not improving in 5 days or so, I would recommend that you schedule a recheck with your vet. I’m worried he may need antibiotics, as he may have a deep skin infection. If it continues to be a problem , a skin biopsy may be recommended. Thanks for asking PetCoach!

Underlying causes of these types of cystic lesions can include allergies, foreign material lodged into tissue, and immune mediated conditions, all of which can become infected with bacteria and/or yeast. Hugo should be examined by his vet because he will likely need an antibiotic or antifungal medication either orally or as a topical foot soak.

Lesions like this can be related to acne, folliculitis or allergies. Typically this does respond to antibiotics but if allergies are the issue, the condition can reoccur. Dogs breeds with heavy jowls/lips are more prone to this condition. Washing all the food/water dishes and all chew toys once a week can help. Your veterinarian may also carry medicated wipes the clean the area daily. Lastly, if allergies are suspected, Jax may need a special diet or even blood testing to determine the offending allergen. If there are no other signs of infection or discomfort such as scratching or biting at it, you may just drain it with your fingers and then clean the area with soapy water.
