Dog has pus-filled blister & scab after grooming. What should I do?

If it is just the one spot, you can clean it with a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution daily. A warm compress applied for 5-10 minutes a few times daily may bring it to a head quicker. If it spreads or worsens, Bella may need to be seen by your veterinarian for an exam and systemic antibiotics. Use an e-collar (cone), if necessary, to prevent licking.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank your for sending those pictures. The areas around her chin and body do look inflamed and infected. This may be due to a bacterial infection, mite infection, or due to an underlying allergy. I would recommend she see her veterinarian as soon as possible. Your veterinarian may do skin scraping to check for mites and may prescribe a course of antibiotics or other medications as necessary. Your veterinarian may also send you home with topical antimicrobial wipes and shampoo as well. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

I would clean this using a combined solution of water and betadine (mix until light brown) and keep the area clean. The cyst will likely close back up now that it has ruptured. If it continues to drain material or becomes infected, then I would have a veterinarian take a look at this and plan to have it removed. I hope this helps! I recommend you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as this will likely require local therapy with cleaning of the site, pain control medications and antibiotics. This could be just an infection though I am suspicious that there is a growth underneath causing this. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. This is severe and no home remedies are expected to improve this. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good night!

They can prescribe a topical or systemic antibiotic for her which may be enough to treat this if they agree it is an infection. Good luck!

I am afraid that this is an open wound and will require further local therapy with debridement, cleaning, stitches, antibiotics and pain control medications.
