My dog has recurring face bumps. What can I do until the vet?

It looks like Trooper may have folliculitis (inflammation of the hair follicles), caused by bacterial infection, demodex mites, fungal infection, or allergy. He will require a vet visit, but in the meantime, I would suggest wiping the muzzle area with a mild soap or chlorhexidine solution which you may be able to find at the pharmacy. This will hopefully keep the muzzle area clean until definitive treatment can be started at the vet. If Trooper is scratching at his muzzle, you may need to put an e-collar (cone) on his head to prevent further trauma to the area. Once at the vet, they may recommend some tests such as a skin scraping, cytology, or fungal culture to rule out the above causes. From there, the appropriate medication can be prescribed. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From the picture you provided, the fluid in these bumps you are expressing looks to be pus to me. If Isaac has not been on a course of antibiotics I would get him on a 3-4 week course of an antibiotic like cephalexin or cefpidoxime. Addutional to oral antibiotics, i would recommend the following: 1. Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until the infection is resolved 2. Welactin omega 3 fish oil 3. Essential 6 spot on by dermoscent If there is no improvement, I would recommend further testing such as culturing the material in the pustules and a skin biopsy. A visit to a veterinary dermatologist should be considered if your vet is unable to make a diagnosis as a second opinion from a specialist is always helpful in these puzzling dermatological cases. These look like areas of infection all over Donut's face and he will need oral medication to get it cleared up. The infection can be either fungal or bacterial so it is important to take him to your vet to determine which it is so it can be treated appropriately. You will probably need oral medication and possibly a topical medication and/or a medicated shampoo.

Hi and thanks for your request. This looks like chin acne, a deep bacterial infection quite commonly seen in these cases. Please provide some disinfection with hibiscrub solution twice daily 1:10 diluted with water and use a buster collar to avoid any scratching/rubbing. If no improvement is seen in a week time a check up will be required as antibiotics may be needed.

If the medications you used don't help within 24 hours, I recommend seeing a vet for oral antibiotics. Also, if that's his neck make sure to clean his collar too. Good luck and kisses to Murphy!

Possible causes are a deep bacterial skin infection (deep pyoderma), demodex (non-contagious mite) and Juvenile Cellulitus (puppy strangles). I recommend you take the to the Vet. Consider having a skin scrape done to check for mites or prophylactically put them on Nexgard or Bravecto (get demodex mites as well as fleas and ticks) and start them on an antibiotic. They usually need to be on antibiotics for several weeks. I would also change their food bowls to metal if they are plastic. Puppy strangles is an immune condition that requires high doses of steroids. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

This appears to be a pustule (pus-filled bump), which indicates that Sebastian has a pyoderma (bacterial skin infection). You can help remove these and keep them from coming back by cleaning the area with a medicated shampoo (can find this at the pet store) daily. Clean the area for at-least ten minutes at a time using warm water and a cloth. Wipe the skin gently, but do not scrub. Don't be surprised if some of these lesions pop - this is perfectly fine. Continue the daily cleaning until you don't see these bumps anymore. If it's not getting better within two weeks, then it's best to take Sebastian to the vet. He may need stronger medication to clear this problem and they can also ensure that his overall health is OK. I hope that helps and Sebastian gets better soon.
