My dog has a recurring ear bump. Should I worry about this growth?

I would recommend having Lily evaluated by the vet if this mass is getting bigger. any abnormal growth that is changing in size and shape should be assessed to make sure that it is not malignant. That does look to be a mass. A mass is a collection of cells and can be benign (inflammation, cyst, some tumors) or a malignant tumor. Given the age of your dog this may be a histiocytoma, but as many skin tumors can look alike the best plan to confirm this is for your vet to perform a needle aspirate for cytology. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I do recommend that all new bumps or lumps be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine if they are benign (non-cancerous) or not. There are multiple non-concerning growths of the skin (such as adenomas or warts) that do not need to be addressed, but there are certain types of skin cancer (such as mast cell tumors) that would need to be removed in order to be cured. I would recommend having Ebony evaluated by her regular veterinarian to determine if these bumps are concerning or not, and if any treatment is needed. Good luck!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Lumps and bumps can always be anything, and unless you take a sample and send it for histopathology we cannot know for sure. However, it doesn't look like a wart, it could be a bug bite but it seems a bit more discreet than that, and bug bites are usually itchy. It looks most like a small mole or cyst. I recommend having it checked by your vet next time you are in the clinic. Otherwise just monitor it for now, if it doesn't go away in a couple weeks, or grows, then get it checked sooner. Hello. Because of this lesions' change in size & color, I would recommend just having it removed. It looks like a melanoma, but would need histopathology to definitively diagnose it. It is small so removal should be pretty easy. This would be a good time to have your veterinarian take a good look deep into Moka's ears. It is difficult to say for sure what the mass is exactly without further testing. If you want a definitive answer, I would recommend having a veterinarian doing some more testing on the mass by inserting a small needle into the mass and looking at the cells under the microscope. As for the itching, I would recommend the below following products. It may be a benign growth (sebaceous adenoma) or not. You can monitor it for rapid change or growth and then have Pumpkin seen by your veterinarian or you can schedule an exam sooner. Whichever choice you make, your veterinarian may aspirate the mass to collect samples for pathology and identification. He or she may also surgically remove it and submit it for pathology. If the bump starts to bother pumpkin, place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent scratching and schedule an exam.
