My dog's rear skin tag is growing during heat. What should I do?

If this has already been determined to be benign then it does not need to be removed unless it is affecting Millie in anyway to improve her quality of life. However, if this has not sampled, a biopsy should be performed. I agree that it is most likely a skin tag but it is not possible to know unless it is sampled. Good luck and have a great day!

Yes, it is a tumour. I would have it rechecked and have it sampled to see what kind of tumour it is. All skin lumps are tumours, but some are completely harmless, some can spread locally, others can spread to different parts of the body. A small test, such as a fine needle aspirate, might give you more of an idea. Good luck !

That mass could be several things. Red raised hairless masses can be benign growths such as warts, histiocytomas, reactions or infected hair follicles. They can unfortunately also be malignant grows such as Mast Cell Tumor or Plasmacytoma. I would recommend to have it checked out by the vet who may be better able to tell how concerned you should be by palpating the mass and the surrounding lymphnodes. However, the fact that the area is bald suggests that Tripp has been scratching or biting on it. Please, monitor the area for a few days. If you notice that the tag is getting bigger or if it is bothering Tripp, you should get him checked by your local vets. In that case, surgical removal of the wart may be necessary.

That is not something you can do at home as it probably has a good blood supply and will bleed a lot if not surgically removed. This shouldn’t be an emergency procedure so I recommend getting an estimate for the growth removal and saving up to get it done soon. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank you for the pictures. Sadly I do not think the growth is a skin tag. I don't like the color or the bubble protuberance. It still could be benign but it doesn't have the typical skin tag appearance. I would have it removed and biopsied. I wish you and Bam the best!
