My dog's skin tag grew quickly and is now huge. Is it a tumor?

My dog has growth that started as a skin tag so vet said but grown huge last few weeks is this a tumour

Yes, it is a tumour. I would have it rechecked and have it sampled to see what kind of tumour it is. All skin lumps are tumours, but some are completely harmless, some can spread locally, others can spread to different parts of the body. A small test, such as a fine needle aspirate, might give you more of an idea. Good luck !

Great question! Yes, there is a test that can be done. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would have your dog seen by a vet to have a fine needle aspirate done on it to diagnose if it's a skin tag or something else.

I would only consider further workup if the lump grows significantly in a short period of time, if it changes shape or texture, or if Timmy starts bothering at it (scratching, licking). Poor guy. This is a skin mass and needs to be tested by your vet to determine what kind of tumor this is. If it seems to be growing uncontrollably then having it surgical removed should be considered. Without seeing it in person it is hard to know for sure what the growth is. It is not likely a wart. Warts are caused by viruses and often seen in the mouth of dogs. This may very well be a benign skin tag/growth, but with any lump an evaluation by your veterinarian at your earliest convenience is recommended. They may take a small needle sample and look at the cells under the microscope to get more info and make sure it is nothing to worry about. They can also discuss options for removal if it is growing or if it is bothering pogi.
