My dog has a red skin tag-like bump. Is it serious or benign?

I recommend to have Lola examined by her veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. An infection is also possible. Your veterinarian may need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. This looks like a mass. It looks quite benign such as a wart or skin tag, however it is impossible to know for sure without testing the lump. You could have the lump tested/removed or simply monitor it for changes. I wouldn't be overly concerned about it.

There are a few possibilities as to what this could be on Ruby. In a younger dog benign masses called histocytomas are possible. These generally regress with time. However, masses like mast cell tumors can also present this way. Mast cell tumors can be problematic and need to be surgically removed. Mast cell tumors also release histamine so please do not continue to try to squeeze this growth. Some other causes of this (although probably less likely) are cysts or infections. I recommend taking Ruby to see your veterinarian so that a sample of cells from the mass can be obtained. This will help in diagnosing the growth and in deciding if it needs to be removed surgically. Tornado is very young, so there is a chance that this could be something called a histiocytoma. This type of mass is commonly seen in younger animals and is non-cancerous that typically goes away on its own. Some cases need to be surgically removed if they are not resolving or if they are growing in size.The other possibility is that it is something cancerous. Mast cell tumor would certainly be on my list of rule outs. To be certain this is nothing to be concerned about, I would recommend that you take Tornado in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. You would need to have your dog physically examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. Removal is recommended if the lump grows larger or becomes ulcerated, but others may grow in the same spot or different areas. Keep it clean and dry and be careful not to irritate it during grooming/brushing or bathing.

This looks like a mass, which is a collection of cells. A mass can be benign (inflammation, cyst, etc) or malignant (skin tumor). The only way to know what this mass is would be by having your vet sample it. Typically we start with a needle aspiration for cytology.
