My dog died with bleeding, pale gums, and green stool. Rat poison?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | 6 months and 8 days old

My dog died and I could not open his jaw of his mouth, he was bleeding from the mouth and gums his teeth were preventing me from opening his mouth they where very pale white, his stool/ poo was green a dark green the day before he died and a bright almost minty green the morning he died. If it was poison like rat poison would there be any signs we could have spotted and would it have been a very painful death? do you know an do you know anything about thoracic or thorax poisoning?

I am very sorry to hear about your loss.
The signs you are describing could be compatible with a rodenticide anti-coagulant intoxication. Bleeding usually starts in the thoracic vessels and when started is often quite late to reverse. It is usually not a painful intoxication and very often quite subtle in terms of clinical signs.

It could be Oscar got into rat poison, but he still could have been hit by a car. He could have had severe internal injuries, and may have crawled to where he was found before passing away. I'm so sorry you lost him!
