My husky has purple, clumpy stool. Is it serious if he's fine?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The discolored stool could be one of two things. It could be blood but it doesn't typically look like that. Blood will either darken the stools if the bleeding is high up in the gut or be bright red in color if the bleeding is occurring lower in the gut. This looks more like food coloring or dyes from the diet or some treats that Chewy may have consumed. If this continues, worsens, or persists you should at least discuss this with your veterinarian. Your vet can assess the problem in person and advise you on what to do. Honestly, I think it's some dye or coloring that was consumed so I would just monitor it closely. Good luck with Chewy.

Poor Cooper! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. Just because he is not around other dogs does not mean he is immune to GI parasites. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. I would recommend bringing Onyx to your veterinarian. He is going to need supportive care including fluids and medication. He may need diagnostics including x-rays looking for a foreign body or blood work looking for pancreatitis. I would not wait much longer to bring him to the vet so he doesn't get any worse. It maybe unrelated since it has been so long. This may be an infection or from ingestion if something else. If you juice bloodybdiarrhea, vomiting and lethargy then I would get her seen by a vet for some testing. If it was the one time and she is otherwise normal, I would monitor her for any further changes

I would most certainly get his stool checked for parasites. If he is otherwise acting normal and eating well, then this is the most likely cause. If he is not fully vaccinated and also acting ill, then he could certainly have parvovirus. You can try offering a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice for now to help settle his stomach until you can get him seen by your vet. I hope that your pet Major is able to recover soon.
