Is it safe to combine Propalin and natural supplements for dog urine leaks?

Hello, and thank you for using PetCoach. Unfortunately, there is nothing over the counter that is going to be anywhere near as effective as Proin for urinary incontinence. However, there are some supplements out there that can help. Here's the one I've had the most success with: Hope that helps!

First of all i would recommend checking the dosage, it is written very clearly in the leaflet: 0.1 mL of Propalin Syrup per 5 kg of body weight, 3 times daily. this means he needs 0.16ml 3 times daily. unfortunately propalin doesn't always work, it does not surprise me because his case is not a classic case of urinary bladder atony which Propalin treats mainly.

You are ok going forward with the supplements. Supplements don't have any interactions with medications that you get from your vet, which is why they are ok to sell over the counter. I do hope that Simba's prostate condition is manageable for awhile and that you can keep him comfortable. Consider getting an aspirate of the prostate if you want to know if it is cancerous or not. I would recommend ensuring that Isla has completely cleared the UTI as incontinence can also be indicative of a residual UTI. If the infection has been cleared fully, I would recommend discussing the use of Proin with your veterinarian. Hi there! Sorry to hear Missy is having accidents. There certainly are medications to help with this. Usually older spayed female dogs are the ones who have these issues-due to estrogen dependent urinary incontinence. Your veterinarian will have to see Missy for an exam and probably blood work to make sure the medications are safe for her. Incuran and Proin are two frequently prescribed medications for these issues and it is usually by preference of the doctor which one is prescribed. Usually they work quite well, and most dogs take them easily with a small snack. I hope this helps!

There is a possibility that the nervousness is related to the Propalin. (Phenylpropanolamin). Side effects can be: Allergic reaction, including swelling of the lips, tongue and face, hives, fever and abnormal behavior. Seizure. Restlessness. Hyperactivity. Increased blood pressure. Increased heart rate. Irritability or aggressive behavior. Loss of appetite, lethargy. I suggest you consult with your veterinarian about either reducing the dosage, or changing to another medication.
