My dog shows early signs of pregnancy. Is she pregnant at 3 weeks?

If she is pregnant, I suspect that she will start to show within the next one to two weeks. You should also see her mammary glands develop. After 28 days of pregnancy, she can see a veterinarian to have her pregnancy confirmed by ultrasound. A puppy count can be done with x-rays after about 45 days of gestation. Puppy heart beats can be detected on ultrasound at 28 days gestation and we can see their skeletons on X-rays around 50 days. She could be pregnant or she could be suffering from a false pregnancy which occurs after they have a heat cycle from a hormonal imbalance. This imbalance causes the body to think it is pregnant when it actually isn't. The dog can develop mammary glands, produce milk, nest, carry stuffed animals around like babies, act anxious. It resolves with in 2-3 months. I would make an appointment with your Vet to see if you can confirm or deny pregnancy. I wish you the best!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, if Princess tied 3 times she is very likely pregnant. Based on your pictures her belly and mammary glands are enlarged. Milk can show up as early as 1 week before labor to right before. Dogs are pregnant 60-63 days so if 12/25 was when you saw them tied then I would expect her to be due 2/22. You can schedule an appointment with your Vet soon to have an X-rays taken to confirm pregnancy and the number of puppies. I would get the whelping box together and start puppy food. Based on those dates, Tara would be about 6 weeks pregnant at this point in time. A dog's gestation length is 58-68 days, with an average of 63 days. Typically you wouldn't see some milk at this stage of gestation, it's still a little early. You would see milk closer to her giving birth, or sometimes not at all. The only way to know for sure if she is pregnant is to have her seen by a your vet. The vet can do x-rays to confirm she is pregnant and can tell you how many puppies she is having. This is more likely to be due to a real pregnancy. Definitive confirmation can be obtained by your local veterinarian by performing an abdominal ultrasound. From day 36-40 of pregnancy x rays will be diagnostic as well.
