My dog keeps doing a prayer pose. Is it a sign of stomach pain?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Spitz | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 2 months old | 16.5 lbs

Bunna, our 3-yr-old Indian male Spitz weighing 10kg is making prolonged bow/prayer poses. We had adopted it when it was 16-months-old. Its former parents got it from a friend when it was just 4-5 days old instead of the mandatory 45-60days. There are no sounds from its abdomen and pooh is okay. Is this sign of chondritis or stomach pain?

Prolonged bowing / prayer poses is typically an indicator of abdominal pain in dogs / cats. The pain can be stemming from a primary gastrointestinal issue or from an organ system like the kidneys, pancreas or liver. Diagnostic blood work and / or radiographs are typically needed in order to best rule in / rule out certain possibilities and plan for the best therapeutic approach. Hope this makes sense.
