Why is my dog's potty area red after washing? Is it a concern?

This is pretty normal. I wouldn't worry unless you notice excessive licking of the area or scooting which could mean anal glands are clogged. That would require expressing from a professional groomer or veterinarian.

Based on this picture it doesn't look right, it looks like it is divided in two but it could be that the picture taken is misleading, i would recommend taking a couple more pictures from different angles so i can determine for sure if there is a problem or not.

This may be due to allergies and/or possibly an infection. A mild infection could resolve on its own. Based on the photo and the symptoms you are describing I would suspect that this redness is secondary to some mild irritation or a very mild bacterial infection. If she is otherwise acting ok I would recommend continuing to monitor this area. If at any point Goldie begins licking or you notice a colored/odorous discharge I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian so that they can evaluate this area and perform other diagnostics such as an impression smear or culture of the area. Hi, Siobhan. It's possible that this spot could be a part of "puppy pyoderma." Many puppies will get little pustules on their skin as they are growing. It is isn't a concern unless it causes irritation (characterized by itching or licking) or it doesn't appear to heal. If it isn't looking better in a few days, i would take Enzo to the vet for evaluation.

It is hard to tell from the photo but I think it looks like he might have gotten some razor burn which irritated him. The irritation has caused him to lick at it which has made it worse. Many things can cause redness around the rear end. Common problems I see are irrigation due to seasonal allergies, infection of the anal sac, and sometimes skin infections or tumors. If it seems painful or is not improving I would recommend he be seen by a veterinarian. Thanks for using Pet Coach
