My dog is on prednisone and Tramadol for a slipped disc. He is now pooping blood. Should we be concerned? And should we give him an anti diarrhea?

Prednisone can cause GI ulceration, which could lead to bloody diarrhea and frank blood coming from the anus. I would take Murphy into an ER vet now, as frank blood from the anus is not normal and is serious. He may need a gut protectant if he is suffering from GI ulceration, which the vet can prescribe. I would not wait until the morning, please see the ER vet now.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I recommend calling Rocky’s vet ASAP as he may be having side effect to the prednisone. However depending on the dose he has been on it can be harmful to stop it cold turkey so you need to discuss any medication changes with his veterinarian
