Why is my dog pooping at night? Is it anxiety or a health issue?

I agree that Hitch has separation anxiety, and it sounds severe if he's pooping in his crate. Usually, the crate helps deter pooping, as dogs do not like to lay down where they have defecated. I would get DAP, it's a plug in pheromone diffuser that fills the room with pheromones to help dogs with anxiety. You can also get him a DAP collar, which also releases the calming pheromones when in contact with his skin. Finally, I would have Hitch seen by a vet. He may benefit from anti-anxiety medications. It's also important to make sure Hitch's crate is only big enough for him to stand up, turn around, and lie down. Too big a space may encourage him to poop in it.

The circling and whining may be indicating she needs to go outside to eliminate. I recommend getting her seen by your vet to make sure there isn't some underlying medical condition that is causing her to suddenly need to relieve herself so early in the morning. If she is an older dog, she may simply be unable to hold it as long as she used to, but it's best to check her out at your vets to be safe. You might consider feeding her two meals a day, one at breakfast time and another late afternoon or evening. Make sure she goes outside right before bedtime and give her plenty of time to relieve herself. Dogs can be like people and do better when they are on a structured schedule with food.

Hi. Poor righ. With diarrhea, I would first get a fecal checked for parasites and have your veterinarian prescribe something for diarrhea . In his case, I would also recommend looking in to a trainer and an anti anxiety medication thru your veterinarian. Good luck.

I recommend first to have Kiki examined by the veterinarian to have her stool checked for bacterial over growth or parasites. If she is experiencing inflammation in her gut, this could speed up the GI transit time meaning she will need to go to the bathroom. If no medical cause can be found, I recommend to feed the brand Royal Canin because it tends to be a low residue diet (as long as it is not the 'diet' formula) and pets who eat this diet tend to produce less stool. I would also switch her to twice a daily feeding (6pm latest) and make sure she has an evening bowel movement before bed. This will help to not make her have a BM in the middle of the night. It sounds like he may have a urinary tract infection. This isn’t as common in male dogs but it can happen. He may be eating his poop out of stress from a possible infection m. I would suggest taking him in to your vet first chance you get to have his urine tested and get him treated. I hope he gets better soon and stops having accidents in his kennel.
