My dog's poop is big with whole kibble after new food. Is this normal?

Thank you for your questions about Koda. I would not say that is normal and I suspect it may be a sign that he does not tolerate the new diet as well. The jury is still out on grain free food, some pets do well on it and other ones develop heart conditions and constipation issues. Most vets generally do not recommend them. I do advise changing the diet again. If you are looking for a nice food, I recommend a brand called Royal Canin. It is generally very easy to digest and most pets who eat this diet have nice coats, good stool quality and low stool quantity (a sign that the diet does not contain many fillers). Change the diet slowly over about a weeks time. If the diarrhea continues, have the stool checked for parasites as this can also cause changes to the stool. I hope you found this helpful. If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you are in the process of changing Simba's food and he's having some diarrhea. This isn't uncommon when changing foods, so there's a good chance that this is what's causing the diarrhea. As long as Simba is acting normal otherwise, you can try withholding food for 12 hours to give his stomach a chance to settle, then feed a mixture of the old food and the new food for the next several days to make the switch more gradually :)

Changing diets can certainly cause changes in stool appearance and size. The Royal Canin hypoallergenic diet is a higher quality diet than Kibbles and Bits, which typically results in less waste due to fewer filler ingredients. Higher quality diets often result in slightly smaller and less frequent stools. If Spock had an obstruction, I would expect profuse vomiting, anorexia and lethargy, so this sounds unlikely. As long as Spock is eating and active with no evidence of vomiting or diarrhea, it doesn't sound like there is cause for concern! :-)

I would choose the food that he likes the best. Personally the first picture is an ideal stool, so that would be a good choice! I hope this helps and good luck!

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I think it is a coincident that a part of her stool looked like a kibble. I cannot imagine that a whole kibble went through her gastrointestinal tract without being digested. Please, keep an eye on her stools and if you see more of potentially undigested food, Chloe may need a blood test to check her pancreas function.

But Chloe's stool may look the same on both diets. The stool is normal in each picture, so I'm not sure what the goal with her stool is. I hope this helps!

Poor Simba! It sounds like he definitely has an upset stomach. You can try withholding food for the next 12 hours to give his stomach a chance to settle, then feed a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for the next few days until things are back to normal. If this doesn't help, or if he continues to vomit or is acting lethargic or not wanting to eat, then it would be best to have him seen by a vet as these can be signs of a more serious problem.
