Why is my dog's poop hard and crumbling after new allergy food?

Yes it can possibly be due to the oil. If feces do not normalize in 48hours I would recommend to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. I would encourage you to ensure that she is drinking enough water as that would be something that is easy to fix. You can also feed her canned diet which will have a higher water content for example. It does sound like this particular dry food may be triggering a reaction and it would be worthwhile contacting your vets office and advising them of the progress. There are many sensitive and hydrolyzed diets available and it can take time to find the most appropriate option

From what your are describing it sounds like Snowball has a potential food allergy. it will not be confirmed until she has been on the hypoallergenic food for at least 6 weeks. But solid feces with only a small amount of mucus sounds like she is improving. Make sure not to give her any treats or table scraps while she is on her food trial as this will confuse the results.

If no improvement after switching to a dry diet, you could consider adding a probiotic to her diet to see if that helps as sometimes that regulates the gastrointestinal system as sometimes there is an imbalance of the good gut bacteria. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Personally the color doesn't bother me but the consistency does. That is diarrhea. It is too soft and not formed. I would go back to the Royal Canin food as it sounds like he digests that one better. Be sure though that he has had his stool tested for intestinal parasites and is up to date on his DHPP vaccines.
