My dog has blisters on his chin. Is it a skin infection or pyoderma?

I am sorry to hear about Jasper! Chin pyoderma, or a bacterial infection of the skin on the chin is not uncommon in dogs, and sometimes can get severe. I would recommend bringing Jasper to a vet for examination because it looks like his case could require systemic antibiotics now rather than just topical treatment. They may also prescribe medication to decrease the inflammation. I would recommend switching to metal bowls if you are using plastic and washing the bowls daily with hot soapy water, and once the infection is under control then sometimes a daily treatment with a Malaket wipe http://mal-a-ket.com/ or Duoxo wipe or mousse https://www.douxo.com/us/douxo-solutions/douxo-chlorhexidine can help keep it under control.

It sounds like it may be chin acne. This can be caused by using plastic bowls or not cleaning bowls daily. I would recommend switching to metal bowls and clean them daily. Hello. This is probably a case of chin furunculosis, a deep pyoderma or skin infection that can be from many causes, including food sensitivities. It often clears up with a round of antibiotics, & sometimes steroids, but may come back if the underlying allergen is not identified. I would start out by slowly switching her food to one indicated for skin issues. Both Purina Pro Plan & Hill's Science Diet have over the counter foods directed at dogs with sensitive skin & stomach issues. You can also clean the skin using a benzoyl peroxide based soap or one with chlorhexidine ( Hibiclens - available at all pharmacies ). If this does not work, or you want to see quicker results, talk to your vet about oral antibiotic therapy, topical therapy with Mupiricin & a prescription hypoallergenic diet. Possible causes are a deep bacterial skin infection (deep pyoderma), demodex (non-contagious mite) and Juvenile Cellulitus (puppy strangles). I recommend you take the to the Vet. Consider having a skin scrape done to check for mites or prophylactically put them on Nexgard or Bravecto (get demodex mites as well as fleas and ticks) and start them on an antibiotic. They usually need to be on antibiotics for several weeks. I would also change their food bowls to metal if they are plastic. Puppy strangles is an immune condition that requires high doses of steroids. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. These look like acne type lesions to me and can occur in dogs secondary to allergies or contact hypersensitivity from things like plastic food bowls. A skin growth or insect bite might be another possibility. I'd recommend having your vet take a look in person to determine what these are - they might recommend taking a sample using a small needle to examine under the microscope.

This is commonly seen when they get a skin infection. The chin is a common place for this to happen, because there can be excessive moisture that gets trapped here. I recommend cleaning the chin with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day until the bump(s) are gone. If it seems to get worse, then you'll want to take Oakley into the vet for an exam, because it may be another skin condition, or need stronger medication.
