My dog has a pink, rough spot on his chest. Is it a hotspot?

Hi ! Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This does not look like a hotspot, it looks very dry, superficial and in the process of healing. Does Toby have a synthetic blanket where he lies on ? It could be contact dermatitis or an injury that was caused by play . The positive things are that it does not look infected and that it is not bothering Toby. I would say, if it is hot to touch, have it checked over if not you could give it another 2-3 days to see if it is continuing to improve on its own. I would not apply any home remedies, your vet will probably prescribe some ointment if you need to go and see it. Hope this helps !

The region shown in the picture is consistent with a hotspot. Hot spots occur when an animal scratches or choose at an until damage is done to the skin. They can often progressbvery quickly and become quite severe if not treated. If the area is continuing to enlarge or if Garret seems uncomfortable I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian. Your veterinarian may clip and clean the area and prescribe medications to help it heal. In the meantime I would recommend that you try to prevent Garret from scratching at the area. You can put a t-shirt on him to protect that area.

Poor girl. She has a skin infection caused by some sort of trauma to her skin. You can try shaving around the area and then cleaning it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water followed by a topical hot spot spray from your local pet store. If after a few days things haven’t improved, then it’s best to get Jake seen by your vet for stronger pet formulated antibiotics to get this to heal. Best wishes with Jake and his hot spot. If it does not bother Diesel at all and he is well in himself you could monitor him at home for 1-2 days. If it is a bruise or allergic reaction, it should go down without treatment. However, if it starts to bother your dog, please make an appointment with your local vets.

Yes, it looks like he has a skin infection/hot spot. He needs an oral antibiotic and possibly a corticosteroid to help treat the infection and inflammation. Schedule an appointment with a vet for treatment.

It looks like a wound if some kind that has a booodbsupply damage to the black part so that skin is nit healthy tissue that can heal. He will most likely need antibiotics from your vet and have that center part removed to let the fresh new skin heal together

Thank you for using PetCoach. I'm sorry Deuce is having problems. From the looks of this picture, this is not likely to heal without oral and topical medications. The sooner he sees a vet the more more likely it will resolve quickly. These skin infections are often painful and tend to have fungal and bacterial populations. In the meantime keep it dry. Please don't use any alcohol or vinegar based treatments as these are very painful. A shampoo with Chlorhexidine may be helpful if used daily, but make sure to completely dry him after washing. If this is on his neck, remove (and disinfect) any collars or harnesses that may rub him. Don't put back on until completely healed. I completely understand that skin issues can be expensive, expecially in a larger dog, but in the long run a vet visit early in the course of illness tends to be cheaper than home remedies and a visit later. In general, a sensitive skin diet tends to help lessen the number of flare ups.
