Why does my dog have a crusty skin spot on his chest with curly hair?

There are many underlying diseases that can predispose dogs to these conditions such as hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, and immunosuppression. It is important to have Marley examined by a veterinarian who can perform tests to diagnose the condition and rule out any underlying disease. This looks like a focal area of infection, commonly referred to a hot spot. I would recommend taking Sophie to the vet to have the area clipped and cleaned. Sophie will probably need to be on antibiotics to help the skin heal properly.

This is a healing hot spot or moist dermatitis. This usually is from scratching or excess licking. You can clean it with antibacterial soap, rinse well and then apply antibacterial ointment on it. This sounds like it could be a hot spot or superficial bacterial skin infection. Most of the time hot spots are treated with antibiotics and sometimes some prescription topical medications. I'd recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian.

This presentation could be due to a localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). This type of skin infection is commonly called hot spot. A check up, appropriate disinfection and antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. This may be a hot spot which is an area of infected and inflammed skin that can be uncomfortable for the pet. Pixie should see your family vet to have the hair in the area clipped and the skin cleaned. Then treatment can be prescribed to treat any infection and stop the itch. Given the location her ears should be examined as well. If deemed a hot spot, and she has recurrent issues with them, underlying allergy may be the cause. Hi ! Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This does not look like a hotspot, it looks very dry, superficial and in the process of healing. Does Toby have a synthetic blanket where he lies on ? It could be contact dermatitis or an injury that was caused by play . The positive things are that it does not look infected and that it is not bothering Toby. I would say, if it is hot to touch, have it checked over if not you could give it another 2-3 days to see if it is continuing to improve on its own. I would not apply any home remedies, your vet will probably prescribe some ointment if you need to go and see it. Hope this helps !
