Is pink discharge normal for my dog 11 days after pyometra surgery?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 years and 7 months old | 5.2 lbs

Is it normal for Angel to still have a pink-ish vaginal discharge 11 days post pyometra surgery? Shes been in an emergency hospital since Sunday (just for boarding since i cant keep my eye on her 24/7) & the vet said it wasnt normal but it wasnt something to worry about, its "just the infection draining". Shes been on clavatop since Sunday (due to the drainage). Shes doing better but shes HATING the collar & if i take it off she wont stop licking her genital area & licks the incision as well.

It is uncommon for discharge to persist this long and a culture and sensitivity test to identify any unusual bacteria may be worth considered and a change of antibiotic may be required if it is resistant to what she is currently on

No, that is not normal. She should be put on broad spectrum antibiotics. There may be an infection in the uterine tissue that is remaining in the abdomen (stump pyometra). A second surgery may be needed to remove the infective tissue. The bloodwork shows a high white blood cell count indicating infection. Some of her liver enzymes are mildly elevated but I don't think they are significant at this time. She needs to be evaluated for a stump pyometra. Yes, the discharge can be normal 10 days after surgery. As long as she is acting normally just monitor the discharge for now. If it persists for another week then you should take her back to the vet for a follow-up. Passing small amounts of stool can also be normal. This can be due from the anesthesia and/or medications she is taking which slow down the GI tract and disrupt the normal bacterial population in the intestines. My dog's C-section incision is leaking pink fluid. Is it normal?

Some degree of discharge may be expected, especially if Princess is overly active. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, odor, redness, or changes in amount or appearance of the discharge. Keep an e-collar (cone) on Princess to prevent licking. Avoid excessive running jumping and rough play. If you are concerned, have her rechecked sooner than Tuesday. A culture of the discharge can be submitted to diagnose infection.

Why is my intact dog still having brown discharge after antibiotics?

It would be best to have your vet recheck this. Pyo can be a concern at any age. Even if the dog hasn't had a heat before. They can also have very severe UTIs which can be resistant to certain types of antibiotics. It would be best to do a culture of the discharge to make sure the medication you are giving is working and that you know exactly what type of infection you are dealing with. A little bit of discharge is normal and may not be related to the surgery. You should how ever always pay attention to any changes or deviations from Ginger's 'normal'. I recommend to call your veterinarian and tell them what is happening. They may ask to examine her again to look at the discharge under a microscope to check for any infection or they may suggest something else. It's possible that you may need to refill your antibiotic prescription. Your doctor may be able to do this over the phone. It's possible that the original prescription or infection may have cause an imbalance in Hooka's stomach. If you notice any vomiting and diarrhea hasn't gone away over the next 24 hours, you might consider offering her a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice until it subsides.
