What is this pimple-like bump on my puppy's lip after playing outside?

Hi there! Yes, puppies can get pimples, and that very well may be what this is. It looks like it's right in the location where his canine tooth rubs on his lip, and if this tooth is new, some irritation may be happening here. It could also be an insect bite, skin parasite, or a localized infection. If it doesn't clear up, gets worse, or appears to be causing Brody any discomfort, I suggest having a vet take a look at it. In the meantime, you can try keeping it clean with a dilute soap and water solution, but Brody may not like it! I wouldn't bother applying any topical ointments to it as he'll likely just lick it right off. Good luck, and I hope Brody's little lip irritation goes away soon!

Hello, Thanks for the good picture. I agree that it does look like a solitary pimple, very well could be from an insect sting initially. I would just monitor this for now. If it spreads into many pimples, a larger sore, or an itchy rash, those would be reasons to have him seen by his veterinarian to ensure he doesn't have a skin infection that requires treatment. You can use a warm compress with saline or epsom salt water on the area for a few minutes twice per day. Otherwise, don't apply any ointments and just let it stay dry and open to air. The area in the picture looks like an area of what I would call excoriation or skin irritation usually seen when a dog scratches an area extensively due to itching. The yellowish area can be a pimple or what we call a pustule (a pimple containing pus). Pimples and pustules are usually raised lesions, extending up from the skin. It's a little difficult making out much detail in the picture. Sometimes damaged areas of skin turn yellowish like that and are usually flat in appearance, not raised up like a pimple/pustule. I see what you mean about the bump, it could be canine acne, but it could also be a sebaceous cyst, a benign growth like a papilloma, or an infected area. Unfortunately without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I do not recommend squeezing it again, don't use any wipes on it, and just keep an eye on it. If it gets bigger, it starts to bother him (you see him rubbing his face on things or using his paw to rub his face), and/or any other concerning behavior such as a lethargy or a loss of appetite, he will need to see a vet. It would be a good idea to get it checked out to be safe, but it's not an emergency. I hope this helps!

The photo is a little fuzzy so its hard to say. It may be an oral papilloma, which is due to canine papillomavirus. Typically these resolve on their own, but many more may pop up over the next few weeks on his lips and in his mouth. It could also be an inflamed hair follicle or a skin infection. If its not resolving over the next few days to weeks, or if it seems to be getting worse or causing him discomfort, please take him to your vet to be evaluated. Without seeing a picture of what you are describing it is difficult to say for sure what this could be. I suspect, due to Blue's age, that this could be a viral papilloma, histiocytoma or pimple-like growth. In all 3 cases, it should resolve on its own. It could be something other than these 3 possibilities. If the spot does not resolve or it worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Blue to that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
