Why is my dog's penis lump getting bigger after vet said it's fine?

Thank you for providing pictures of Gucci's bump. From the pictures, it looks like it could be a cyst, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options with you. Depending on how it feels that could be something benign such as a fluid filled cyst or an abscess (pocket of infection and pus), or it could be something more aggressive such as cancer. The only way to tell is by taking a sample of it and looking at the cells under the microscope. If it's a cyst or an abscess, your veterinarian will be able to tell most likely without needing to look at the cells. I would recommend having the lump evaluated by your veterinarian. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. While this could be something benign, there is a possibility of it being malignant which is why it needs to be taken care of. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good day!

This could be a seroma from an injury, a cyst, abscess or a tumor. Cysts and abscesses need to be drained by a vet. If your vet suspects a tumor, he will do a fine needle aspirate to determine whether it is a harmless lipoma, which does not need to be removed unless it is ulcerating or bothers the dog due to its location or size, or another tumor that needs to be removed. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam of the mass.

As long as the white bump hasn't changed and it doesn't bother Frank then it's nothing to be overly concerned about. I'm glad you had it examined to be sure and I agree with your veterinarian. I'm wondering if what you are describing are your dog's bulbourethral glands. These are glands on either side of the penis that can swell, and in a dog the size of Ollie they would appear about walnut-sized. This can happen even if a dog is neutered. If this is what you're seeing, the enlargement will fluctuate in size and at times will nearly disappear. If what you're seeing is more growth-like (and particularly if it's asymmetrical, rapidly growing, etc) then I would be more concerned about it being a possible mass, and would advise having it looked at by a vet. This could be anything from a benign fatty tumor, to an enlarged lymph node, to a hernia, to a mass or other. While it’s unlikely an emergency, I would schedule an appointment with your vet at the earliest convenient appointment.
