My dog licked an ear infection. Is his penile discharge yeast?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 5 lbs

1 of my dogs (Sasha) was diagnosed with a yeast ear infection. Can this infection be transmitted to my other dogs penis? Just a few days after a short haircut and Sasha's diagnosis. My other dog who is constantly licking at Sashas infected ear started with a thick green penile discharge. He is constantly licking himself and obviously bothered by it. Im wondering if its possibly a yeast infection as well?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Murphy!

I don’t think that Murphy has a yeast infection from licking Sasha’s ears. He likely has a bacterial infection of his prepuce or penis. He could have a UTI as well. It is unlikely yeast. I would make an appointment with your Vet. Wipe the discharge and collect a urine sample to bring with you.

I hope this helps and I wish Murphy and Sasha the best!
