Why is my dog suddenly peeing a lot after a day at the beach?

She probably drank a huge amount of lake water causing the excessive urination. This should improve in a day or so. If it continues please bring her in to have her urine checked and they may want to do a kidney function screening also. It could be that she is just exhausted from playing in the sea all day, or she could have drank too much sea water upsetting her stomach. If you are concerned that she looks really ill, then it's fine to have her seen by a vet right away. Otherwise, allow her to sleep, and make sure to leave water out at all times for her. When she's ready to drink, she will have some water. Sleeping for two to three hours isn't much, I'd be more concerned if she was sleeping all day long. If she still isn't drinking water in the morning and still seems ill, you can bring her into the vet for a health check.

If she is drinking a lot of water and urinating a lot this can be a sign of an underlying disease - number one would be diabetes. Did your vet do any blood testing? If not, I suggest you have that done now. The other option, if she is not spayed, is a pyometra (uterine infection). Again, bloodwork would reveal this as she would have a very high white blood cell count. Please take her back to the vet for some blood testing.

I would not get too worried over two episodes. I recommend watching his water intake and urination over the next week or so. If you notice that both remain elevated he should get checked out by a veterinarian as it could be signs of early diseases like kidney issues and Cushing's disease. Also monitor him for any blood in his urine, dribbling, or straining to urinate as it could indicate an infection or even stones.

Hi and thanks for your post! The noodles may have been very salty (had a high sodium) content which may explain why she is drinking a lot of water and urinating a lot. If she is still exhibiting he same signs and has not improved in an hour or so, I'd take her into her emergency veterinarian. Asian noodles can often contain high amounts of salt which can be toxic to dogs. She may need IV fluids and electrolyte supplemention. Hi, I would definitely have Kitty checked over. Poliuria can be a sign of many things, like a urinary tract infection, early kidney disease, early diabetes, Cushing’s and many more ! Hopefully it is nothing to worry about , as she is very lively and fit. However best to rule out everything that if not picked up early could worsen rapidly over the course of time.
