Why is my dog still peeing blood and having accidents after cystotomy?

You should call the vet and give him/her an update so they know what is going on with your dog. Your vet may want to see her or just ask you to bring in a urine sample to check for an infection. If she has a urinary tract infection, your vet may prescribe an antibiotic, unless she is already on an antibiotic post-spay.

It does take time for Little One's bladder to heal from the bladder stones, so yes you can still see some blood in her urine. She can bleed on and off after bladder surgery, but I would still monitor her. If the bleeding gets worse or she starts having difficulty urinating, I would contact your vet immediately. Oh my. These symptoms are alarming and very concerning. Jojo could either have a serious cystitis (inflamed bladder), raging UTI, or even a bleeding disorder is possible here. Please take her to your local vet asap for an exam, urinalysis and immediate treatment based on her lab findings. I would recommend taking her to the ER vet if at all possible, so that she can get treated quickly before this gets any worse.

That bruising is not unusual following a cystotomy. Bruising can change over time and should start to dissipate soon. As long as she's feeling as well as can be expected post surgery and keeping quiet there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

I would recommend taking Crybaby back to the vet for re-evaluation. Some dogs can have recurrent UTIs, but often they are secondary to a bigger issue, such as bladder stones, cancer, or anatomical issues. Another round of antibiotics may help, but may just cover up the bigger issue, again.

Poor girl. Yes it can be normal for pets to still have blood in their urine unfortunately for up to 48 to 72 hours after taking antibiotics. However you should see improvement with the blood every day and your pet should still be active alert and relatively stable otherwise.

Hello, thank you for your question about Mollie. A small amount of blood in the urine is to expected after this kind of procedure secondary to the surgery causing mild inflammation/trauma. If Mollie is otherwise acting normally and this continues to improve I would not be concerned. If this persists or she begins to demonstrate other symptoms such as more frequent urinations, decreased appetite, or lethargy it is possible that she may have developed a secondary urinary tract infection.
