My dogsitting dog suddenly peed on couch. Is she acting out?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 1 year and 6 months old | 12 lbs

I am dogsitting my sister’s almost one year old shihtzu while she is on vacation. Pepper and the other dog get along and play all the time. We are on day 3 and I am thinking the novelty is wearing off. She doesn’t want to share her toys and will run with them onto the couch so the dog can’t get them. I went outside with the other dog and when I came in, Pepper had peed on the couch. Which she never does. She had just been out maybe 30 minutes before. Could she be acting out?

Yes or this can be a medical problem such as a urinary tract infection. Anxiety or jealousy can be a problem and contribute to this. Try your best to keep your routine the same to help with this. If you are not watching pepper, you may need to put her in a kennel to prevent further behavior until she learns it is unacceptable at any situation
