Why are my dog's paws red, smelly, painful, and she can't walk?

It looks like Lillie may have a pododermatitis, or foot infection as there appears to be some redness and moisture in between her toes in the pictures. It could be secondary to trauma, but I typically see it in dogs with allergies. If she will let you soak her feet in Epsom salts for 5-10 minutes daily that may help but ultimately she may need to see a vet for treatment since oral medications are often much more effective. That is likely to be due to an infective pododermatitis that possibly could have an allergic base. It is basically a localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. Usually a veterinarian would perform a cytology to distinguish between a bacterial and fungal skin infection - they would take a sample on a microscope slide and examine for organisms. Sammi may have allergic skin disease causing these red areas. Often allergies are combined with secondary yeast or bacterial infection between the toes. This can be very itchy and painful. The fact that more than one toe is effected makes me more concerned that this is more than just a bacterial infection. While it is possible that bacteria are the primary problem, multiple toes being effected is concerning for a type of cancer or autoimmune condition. I recommend to have Coco examined by the veterinarian. The veterinarian may not be able to tell what this cause is by just a physical exam. They may try a round of antibiotics and monitor a response the therapy. If the lesions persist, biopsy is the next step. Not being able to walk is a sign that Coco is hurting. A bad odor is usually associated with overgrowth of bacteria or yeast and requires veterinary exam in order to get the appropriate medications to treat the overgrowth and also to get medication to get the inflammation under control. Until you get an appointment with your vet you should put an e-collar on her so she doesn't further traumatize the feet.
