Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Why is the skin on my dogs feet like this? We go on hikes and a lot of walks his feet use to be black But now the skin is turning pink is he getting too much walks? Should I take him on less hikes? It doesn’t hurt him or anything

It appears as though the pads are just soft and the first couple layers are rubbing off. Nothing to worry about too much. I suggest you use a product to toughen up the pads. In the meantime, you can try using some booties when you hike to protect the pads.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.
