What is this strange growth on my dog's paw pad? Is it a wart?

It isn't a tick. It appears to be a small growth or cyst. Since Bonnie seems bothered by it, have her examined by your veterinarian. A fine needle aspirate can be done in the clinic to collect samples for pathology. Once results are returned, you can discuss treatment options with your veterinarian. If she can lick or chew it, place an e-collar (cone) on her until she sees the vet.

Ouch! With any new growth like this, it's best to have your vet take a look in person, as it isn't really possible to determine what is causing the growth just from a photo. Your vet can take a sample of the growth as needed with a fine-needle aspirate, or biopsy, to check what cell type is present and if the spot needs further attention. Other causes can be calluses from rubbing, scabbing from a wound or infection under the skin, or other issues. Until you can get to the vet, it's best to keep the area clean and dry and prevent Ginger from licking or chewing at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar or sock over the spot. Monitoring it for any additional changes such as size, oozing debris, pain, etc, is also a good idea as these observations can help your vet narrow down the cause and best treatment plan.

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This appears like a wart, or possibility a sebaceous adenoma. I would have to examine it closer to be sure though. These are benign masses that usually go away on their own. It's best to have your vet examine it to be sure. That could be her pad has torn, and that would be my best guess from the picture given it's the exact same color as the rest of the bad. It may be she injured herself, and that is a flap of the pad sticking up. It won't be life threatening, but it should get checked out by a vet. Tonight, put a cone on her to keep her from licking the area. You can make one at home or buy one at a pet store. I hope this helps!

Yes, this does look like it could be a benign growth but unfortunately I cannot make a definitive diagnosis from a picture. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Hello. It is very difficult to tell exactly what you are trying to show because of all the hair there. It does somewhat resemble a plantar wart, but I am afraid a hands on exam will probably necessary to truly identify what this is. You can try bandaging up the paw in essence creating a sneaker to protect the area, but do try to have this looked at in the near future in case additional treatment is necessary.
